Attractions Near Akron John S. Knight Center

Visitors to Akron, Ohio will find attractions near the Akron John S. Knight Center in downtown Akron. There are museums and other places to visit within five miles of the downtown area.

The Akron Art Museum is one of the museums in downtown Akron. Some of the galleries display art produced between 1850 and 1950. Other galleries focus on art produced after 1950.

The Akron History Museum is at Lock 3 Park in the downtown area. Exhibits based on the history of the region focus on the building of canal boats and the tire industry. The Akron Toy Marble Museum is located at the history museum. It has displays of marbles and exhibits on the history of marble manufacturing. Concerts are held at Lock 3 Park during the summer and there is an ice skating rink here during the winter. Plays and concerts are held at the Akron Civic Theatre next to the park.

Cascade Valley Park is approximately three miles north of downtown Akron. Visitors can picnic, hike and fish here. There are places to go cross-country skiing and sledding during the winter.

The Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is about four miles from downtown Akron. The Manor House on the property was built in the early 20th century. Items from around the world are displayed in the house. It has 23 fireplaces and wooden paneling. There are 70 acres of gardens on the property. Gardens include a Japanese Garden, an English Garden and a Great Garden with roses and other flowers.
